Reverse French Manicure

I think that there is no other manicure style that resembles the French manicure. I am not talking only about its appearance, but as well about the fact that it is the oldest style that is still very trendy. It is possible that you didn’t know that it was invented around the eighteenth century. In that period only French royalty had this kind of manicure, especially the man and it was considered to be an indicator of their status. Since then its popularity was constantly changing, but we can’t say that at some point it was considered to be old-fashioned. Even in our days, centuries after its invention it is one of the most asked for manicures.



I believe we all know what a French manicure means: the type of manicure that involves white tips and a beige, pink, nude or clear base. There is nothing surprising, but since it has been around for such a long period, it was time to change something, to create something new. At the beginning somebody came up with the idea to use other colors instead of white and pink. In our times you can see French manicures made using all kinds of different colors, there are no limitations from this point of view. After a while this wasn’t enough so something other had to be changed as well. This is the point when the reverse French manicure was created.

I suppose you know or you can imagine how it looks like, but if not, I will try to describe it. It can have a color or just simple base coat and on top of that there is another color. This would be quite pointless, but the trick is that there is a space left on the upper part of the nail, creating some kind of a fake moon (or lunula). I find this style quite interesting.

The first step to get such a manicure is to apply the base coat and the base color and you have to wait for them to dry. It usually is created with the help of tapes or stickers that, unlike in the case of a tradition French manicure, we stick to the upper part of the nail upside down, so that it follows the shape of the moon. This is the exact opposite of the way we would use them on the tips. After you stick the tapes, you can apply the other layer of polish and you should wait a couple of minutes for it to dry. Then you can remove the tape and it is advisable to apply a top coat.

I think that the reverse French manicure is a very creative variation of the traditional one and it could be a nice change if you are bored of having the same manicure. Besides I think that it looks really interesting and quite unusual so for sure it will be noticed by those around you. Still the most important thing is that you like it, it doesn’t really matter what the others think.
